President Donald Trump floated moving nearly 90,000 IRS agents hired under the Biden administration to the border to patrol the area while armed with guns.
“On day one, I immediately halted the hiring of any new IRS agents. They’re hiring, or trying to hire, 88,000 new agents to go after you. And we’re in the process of making a plan to get rid of them all or we’re going to move them to the border. And I think we’re going to move them to the border,” he said. Trump during a meeting at the Circa Resort & Casino in Las Vegas on Saturday evening.
“Where they are not allowed to carry guns, you know they are very strong with guns, but these people are allowed to carry guns, maybe we will move them to the border,” he continued. Certain IRS special agents are allowed to carry firearms as part of their duties, according to the IRS Code, 26 US Code § 7608.
Trump joined supporters in Las Vegas this weekend after a tour of North Carolina devastated by Hurricane Helene in September, and in California, where he visited Los Angeles and met with local leaders about the wildfires that have ravaged the area this month.

As he floated moving thousands of IRS agents to the border, Trump also proposed eliminating the entire income tax, saying his tax plans would close fiscal loopholes.
“How about not paying taxes,” he said happily, while laughing. “You can do that. You know if prices work like I think, something like that can happen, if you want to know the truth.”

“In the years that went by from 1870 to 1913 we had no income tax. We had, what we had were tariffs, where foreign countries came in and took away our jobs, stole our companies, stole our products. And, you know, they used to do numbers from 1870 to 1930. Then we came in – cleverly came in – with the income tax,” he continued, explaining the Great Depression rocked the US shortly after the transition from the tax system of the 1800s and early 1900s.
