The Indian Army said that a four-year-old dog — a Belgian Malinois — was hit by a bullet while firing at the enemy during the army’s attack on the insurgents.

An army dog was killed on Monday when it was hit by a bullet during an encounter in Akhnoor sector of Jammu district. The dog was seriously injured while firing at the enemy when the soldiers attacked the terrorists, said the Indian Army.
“We pay tribute to the supreme sacrifice of our true hero – the brave dog of the Indian Army, Phantom,” the Indian Army’s Jammu-based White Knight Corps said on the X website.

“When our soldiers arrested the trapped terrorists, Phantom drew enemy fire, causing serious injuries. His courage, honesty and dedication will never be forgotten,” the document added.
According to available information, the four-year-old Phantom was a male Belgian Malinois – a favorite breed of special forces around the world. It was born on May 25, 2020, and was sent as an “attack dog” on August 12, 2022, after being released from the RVC Center in Meerut.
The army also said that in the ongoing operation, one terrorist has been neutralized and militant shops have been found.
