A day after three members of a family were found murdered in South Delhi’s Devli village, investigators “found a murder weapon, a knife” and a “blood-stained shirt” that the assailant was allegedly wearing at the time.
On Wednesday, 20-year-old boxer Arjun Tanwar allegedly cut the throats of his family – father, former Armyman Rajesh Kumar Tanwar, 51), mother Komal (46) and sister Kavita (23). Police said that Arjun, who had called the PCR, confessed to the crime during questioning.
After that, the police arrested him on Wednesday afternoon.
The police said that there were blood stains on the keys of the house and the keys of his motorbike that were found on him (Arjun).
“The T-shirt was found in Sanjay Van. He (Arjun) changed his clothes after the killing and threw his sweatshirt in the forest,” said the police officer. “The knife he used is two and three centimeters bigger than a kitchen knife. We think it is a knife that (Arjun’s) father got while serving in the Army. He also threw this knife at Sanjay Van.” This sprawling urban jungle is 8 kilometers away from the scene.
The police also said that Arjun had a bad relationship with his family and believed that they preferred his sister over him and would transfer the family property to his name. The police also said that Rajesh had slapped Arjun in front of relatives in the past and the family had a big fight on December 1 when his sister’s birthday was celebrated.
Police say this is the cause of the crime.
‘There are no problems between father and son’
In Neb Sarai’s Devli village, where the Tanwars lived in a two-storey house for the past 10 years, on a narrow lane dotted with cement houses that looked stuck together, there was a shock.
A neighbor, who works as a driver in a small house in the neighboring Sainik Farms, said he knows very well. “I have known them for ten years now. He (Rajesh) worked as a PSO at Sainik Farms. He always spoke softly. His children were also well behaved. I have never seen them argue in public. I have never seen or heard the boy (Arjun) fight with anyone.” he said.
Sube Singh, Rajesh’s cousin who had come to the village from Kapashera after hearing about the murder, is skeptical. “There are no problems between Rajesh and his son. He was very proud of being the boy who got the silver medal. He always said that Arjun will continue to play for this nation.”
“Every time I met Rajesh, he would talk about how Arjun was training hard. There was never any disagreement between them. We are shocked.”
He also questioned the property dispute: “Apart from the house, Rajesh didn’t have much. His land in Mahendergarh is in his mother’s name,” said Singh.
