It was only a matter of time before robot vacuums reached a new stage of evolution. Over the years, they have become faster, smarter, and able to climb. So, it shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone here at CES 2025 that we’ll see one that can sprout a claw arm to aid in its cleaning duties.
The Roborock Saros Z70 is a space robot with a folding arm inside its chassis. The “OmniGrip” mechanical arm can extend and twist to pick up small objects or pieces of trash and drop them in a designated area.
The Saros Z70 will run its normal cleaning routine and notice the things it can pick up. Once the initial cleaning is complete, it will circle back to pick up the item and take it with it. If you are impatient, you can control the arm yourself with the app. The in-arm camera makes picking up items easy and gives you a fun carnival game vibe.
The arm itself can only take up to 300 grams of material. In a private demo, we saw the Saros Z70 try to pick up football socks to mixed results. Roborock said the bot was running old software at the time of launch; the claw arm struggled to pick up the sock on the first few tries and refused to budge during one test, requiring several hard resets.
As you can see in the video, the AI-powered robot vacuum takes a long time to pick up and transport the sock. However, if you’re driving all night or not, it’s probably not that big of a deal. In addition to socks, the Saros Z70 should be able to handle small toys, towels, and slippers and put them back where they fit.
Roborock says the Saros Z70 detects up to 108 objects using machine learning. The app allows you to define and label up to 50 custom objects in your home. All information is stored on the device, not in the cloud.
Aside from being able to pick up your trash, the Saros Z70 offers everything you’d expect from a high-end robotic vacuum. It mops, cleans corners, and has a fast charging dock. It will also work with smart home ecosystems such as Apple Home, Google Home, and Amazon Alexa.
The Roborock Saros Z70 will be launched later this year. The price has not been announced yet.
