“That first night I wrote the will, I thought I was going to die,” said George, 36, on Saturday, January 11, in an interview with The Sun.

The Wanted frontman recalled waking up with cold blue hands on December 11, 2024, while staying with his mother.

“I didn’t feel it for a few days, I started feeling angry,” said George. “I couldn’t put my finger on it. I was out of energy and stuff, struggling to get out of bed. But I didn’t think it was anything serious.”

Max George is currently in hospital being treated for heart problems. “Yesterday I felt unwell and was admitted [the] in the hospital,” The Wanted frontman, 36, wrote in a lengthy Instagram post on Thursday, December 12. “Unfortunately after some tests they found out that I have problems with my heart.” George, who is it? […]

He went on to say, “Fortunately, I turned to my mother to sit down and woke up and remembered seeing my hands were green, my arms were gray and the cold was excruciating. I struggled to even sit up in bed.”

When George’s mother saw him, she cursed and called a doctor. When George went for tests and was sent home, his mother continued to plead for help.

“At this point I was feeling nervous, but I was also excited,” he said. “I couldn’t move my arms and the worst feeling was like my throat was closing. It was as if someone had put their hands on my neck. I thank God that I stayed with my mother—she saved my life.”

Doctors told George there was something “deeply wrong” with his heart and he would need a pacemaker.

“For some reason the rhythm is off and the signal doesn’t seem to be going from the upper chamber of your heart to the lower part, the part that pumps blood through your body,” she recalled the doctors telling her. “I was completely shocked.”

George called the experience “really scary” noting that it was “definitely not where I thought I’d be at 36.”

“I was awake all night, I felt like my throat was closing, I was really struggling to move and I was breathing heavily, breathing slowly,” he said. “There was nothing they could have done to stop that. I could live maybe a few weeks, maybe a few months, but it would be a few hours. We didn’t know.”

Two days after being admitted to the hospital, George’s heart rate dropped to 26 beats per minute.

“Friday, December 13, was the worst day I’ve ever had there,” he said. “My heart rate and blood pressure dropped at the same time, and that was a huge concern.”

During an interview with Hugh Grant on his “SmartLess” podcast, Sean Hayes’ partners confirmed his recent heart problems. Grant, 64, revealed that he “can no longer” fly across the Atlantic because of his age. “I woke up hours ago, hungry and felt like my heart was made of Play-Doh,” Grant joked on Monday, November. He continued, “The consultants were not there to operate in an emergency.” It was so close that night, I actually felt my throat close up and that’s when I kind of panicked and I actually felt like I was going to die. It was so bad, I felt emotional.”

George was taken by ambulance to the hospital on December 15, where he received a CT scan. He got a pacemaker three days later, with his partner Masie Smith beside him as he realized his place.

“I also had the right heart at that time. My heart rate started to increase. So I remember feeling my feet tingle, because I think it’s obvious that the blood started pumping properly,” he said.

He continued, “I was like, ‘Holy s—, I feel alive again,’ like it was a really good feeling.” It was hard to be away from Maisie, but she climbed on the bed, obviously she lay across my chest in my op, she put her head on top of me. We just hung out for a few hours talking about football and we treat it like normal. I felt butterflies around him again.”
