The UTTAR Pradesh GOVERNMENT has rejected a mercy plea seeking the early release of convicted murderer and gangster Om Prakash Srivastava alias Babloo (60), who is lodged in the Bareilly Central Prison. The government, in a letter, informed the Department of State Prisons about the decision, officials said on Wednesday.

In 2008, a Kanpur court sentenced Srivastava, who hails from Lucknow, and two associates, Kamal Kishore Saini and Manjit Singh Mange, to life imprisonment for the 1993 murder of assistant tax collector LD Arora, which took place in Allahabad on March 24. 1993. The verdict was later upheld. by the Supreme Court.

According to the government’s letter, Srivastava served 26 years, nine months, and 20 days in prison as of February 10, 2022, and with his acquittal, his sentence totals 31 years, three months, and three days.
