Ahead of the first session of the Assembly of the year, scheduled to begin on January 6, the Speaker of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly M. Appavu called on Governor RN Ravi at the Raj Bhavan here on Friday and invited him to deliver the Governor’s address in the House.
The first session of the Legislature in the calendar year begins with the speech of the traditional Ruler in the House. When the Governor finishes his speech in English, the Speaker reads the Tamil version.
During the last two years, the day of the Governor’s speech in the House has seen unprecedented and unpleasant incidents that emphasize the widening of the gap between the Governor and the Chief Minister. Although the two were not on the same page on many issues affecting the DMK government, the selection of Ministers, the spread of drugs among students and youth, among others, they continued to do their official work on occasions like Republic Day. celebrations.
The 234-member Parliament has one seat vacant since the death of Congress leader EVKS Elangovan on December 14. He represents the Erode East Assembly constituency in the National Assembly.
