The panel led by BJP’s Nishikant Dubey also chose the impact of the emergence of Artificial Intelligence and related issues as one of its subjects.

The team was tasked to assess the performance of the ministries of information and broadcasting, electronics and information technology, and communications.

According to a report in the Lok Sabha Bulletin issued on Tuesday, the standing committee related to the ministry has also appointed a review of the implementation of laws related to all types of media and a review of the performance of the public broadcaster Prasar Bharati.

As hundreds of people every day become victims of digital and cyber crime, the panel will look into its regulation and monitoring.

The Lok Sabha Secretariat also announced the constitution of the Joint Committee on Offices of Interest in the current Lok Sabha with BJP’s Eatala Rajender as its chairman.

Parliament passed the Parliament (Prevention of Impeachment) Act 1959, which established those offices which cannot revoke their holders’ membership of Parliament.

The law states that if a member or director of a statutory or non-statutory board or company is not entitled to receive any other payment other than the compensation allowance, he shall not be disqualified from receiving those allowances.

The committee examines such cases.
