The Karnataka State Government NPS Employees Association has announced a dharna on February 7 if the State Government does not announce the scrapping of the New Pension Scheme and the decision to return to the old pension scheme in the 2025-2026 budget.

After the state assembly meeting here on Sunday, the Association said that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had promised on January 1, 2023 that he would bring the issue of scrapping of NPS before the cabinet and decide on the matter. “Meanwhile, the Center has announced the Unified Pension Scheme (UPS) which will replace the NPS. However, we absolutely reject UPS. Our only requirement is to use OPS.”

The statement said: “If the workers do not get a guarantee in the 2025-2026 budget as they promised in the Congress manifesto, we will stage a dharna to demand our rights. The organization also opposes the committee set up to examine what is happening in the states that have scrapped NPS and returned to OPS.
