The Genesis offering will be played at Torrey Pines Golf Course in San Diego next month, moving from fire-ravaged Los Angeles, the PGA Tour announced Friday.
The Riviera Country Club is located in the Pacific Palisades section of Los Angeles and was scheduled to host the tournament from February 13-16, which is hosted by Tiger Woods and his foundation. The Palisades fire has burned 23,400 acres and is 75 percent contained, per reports.
“We are very grateful to the city of San Diego and Torrey Pines for hosting the Genesis 2025 giveaway, and to everyone who gave up on the tournament,” Woods said in a news release. “While Riviera remains at home at Genesis, we look forward to playing in another golf tournament this year and to the tournament to support those affected by those affected in the Los Angeles area.”
Torrey Pines, an annual tourist attraction since 1968, is the site of this week’s farmers market that opens this week. The Municipal course also opened the US 2008 and the US Open, won by wood and the Spaniard Jon Rahm, respectively.
The PGA Tour said the Genesis Invitational is expected to return to the Riviera in 2026. The course is also scheduled to host golf events at the ONGE Angeles Olympics.
At that time, San Diego was happy to enter.
“It was the privilege of the city of San Diego to extend our collective hand when we were given the opportunity to help our neighbors in Los Angeles,” said Mayor Todd Gloria. “We look forward to accepting Genesis’ offer in February and offering our full support to the PGA Tour.”
