Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has directed officials of the Housing Department to form committees to oversee the implementation of the Indiramma Housing Scheme, a program for the weaker sections announced by the Congress Government, before Dasara.
He wanted guidelines that the constitution of committees at ward, mandal or city, circle and district level should be prepared within two days. Steps should be taken to allot houses to all eligible families. The CM gave these instructions during a meeting to review the houses of Indiramma and senior officials on Wednesday.
He lamented that Telangana was lagging behind in getting houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) while other states were able to get permission for construction of houses. Steps should be taken to ensure that Telangana secures maximum share in the next phase under PMAY. At the same time, efforts should be made to ensure the release of pending payments to the Government under this scheme.
Officials were directed to provide necessary information to the Center about the housing scheme and update the information from time to time.
The CM was told that the initiation of construction of large houses under the Indiramma housing scheme may cause shortage of engineering staff. Mr. Reddy quickly responded by asking officials to hire people unless needed.
He ordered the officials to sell the blocks and units built under the Rajiv Swagruha scheme, which were not in use at the moment as keeping those areas under the government was not appropriate.
2-BHK units
Mr. Reddy asked the officials why the houses under the 2-BHK scheme were not allotted to the eligible beneficiaries even after the completion of the selection process and directed them to ensure speedy allotment.
Steps should be taken to provide basic amenities to the blocks and units constructed under the Rajiv Swagruha scheme before handing over to the deserving beneficiaries. Finance and Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, Chief Secretary A. Santhi Kumari, principal secretary of CMO V. Seshadri, Housing Department Secretary Jyoti Buddha Prakash and other senior officials.
