The Chikkamagaluru police have arrested two for selling beef at the weekly market in Bankal


Banakal police in Chikkamagaluru district arrested two persons, natives of Assam, for allegedly selling beef in the weekly market at Banakal in Mudigere taluk on Monday.

The suspect, who worked in a shop, had set up shop in the weekly market and also sold packets of meat. A number of people suspected that they were selling beef. Pro-Hindutva activists informed the police. Bankal police in Mudigere taluk seized the packets and locked them up.

Later, the activists staged a protest demanding strict action against those who sell beef and urged the local panchayat officials to ensure that the ban on the sale of beef is implemented properly.
