The exciting journey of the 2024 Major League Baseball (MLB) playoffs began after the end of the regular season, marked by the next two games on Monday. For the third year in a row, the 12-team playoff season began with the wild-card round, which began Tuesday and was broadcast on ESPN. In this round there were eight teams fighting for the four places that are desired to advance to the series of stages consisting of eight teams.
Playoff picture: American and National League
The American League playoff standings were finalized on the final day of the regular season, Sunday, with the Yankees and Rangers clinching the top two spots. However, the National League playoff spot, where the Phillies and Dodgers earned the top spots, was not confirmed until the Mets and Braves wrapped up their doubleheader on Monday. The Mets and Braves ended their doubleheader with a tie, each clinching a playoff spot (effectively eliminating Arizona), and will now face their wild card contenders immediately before Tuesday.

Wild card series: American and National League
Eight teams will enter the field but only four will advance. Stay up to date with the entire wild card series through Thursday on ESPN and ABC. Here is the schedule for Tuesday:

– NYM @ MIL: 5:30 pm ET on ESPN
– ATL @ SD: 8:30 pm ET on ESPN
The divisional series and championship series of both the American and National Leagues are scheduled to provide exciting action. Here are the schedules for each:
American League Division Series
The Cleveland Guardians take on the winner of the Tigers-Astros series and the New York Yankees take on the winner of the Royals-Orioles series.
National League Division Series
The Philadelphia Phillies take on the winner of the Mets-Brewers series and the Los Angeles Dodgers take on the winner of the Braves-Padres series.
American League Championship Series
The best-of-seven series begins Monday, October 14 (TBS).
National League Championship Series
The best-of-seven series begins Sunday, Oct. 13 (FOX/FS1).
The best-of-seven series will begin on Friday, Oct. 25 (FOX). Note that if both league championship series ends on Oct. 19, meaning no series goes beyond five games, the World Series will begin on Tuesday, Oct. 22.
