Founder of BTC Media eleven years ago, I am passionate about the future of Bitcoin – and in the spirit of free speech and democracy on the eve of the election – I feel compelled to share my first opinion piece for Bitcoin Magazine. A few weeks ago our editor-in-chief, Aaron Van Wirdum, published his book, “Trump Doesn’t Give a Damn About Bitcoin,” and invited submissions of rebuttals.
Our company was founded with the goal of hyperbitcoinization. From the beginning, educating Main Street on Bitcoin has been at the core of our values. We have made great progress. I believe that Trump – as a standing president – with Bitcoin advisors, can accelerate Main Street’s adoption of Bitcoin, build the world’s leading Bitcoin economy, and change Ross Ulbricht’s phrase… a powerful trifecta.
The strong doubt found in Aaron’s TAKE is not a feeling I have; rather, I trust Trump’s announced support for Bitcoin. His inner circle is full of ardent Bitcoiners and those who have shown support for Bitcoin: his children, JD Vance, Elon Musk, RFK Jr., Tulsi Gabbard, Vivek Ramaswamy, Senator Lummis, Blackburn , Hagerty and Scott and many more.
As a relative newcomer to the Bitcoin space, Trump, like many, is still learning. I recognize and appreciate his lifelong student’s curiosity and desire to fully understand the future of money. A Bitcoin-savvy US president, who surrounds himself with pro-Bitcoin advisors and policies, is certainly a better option than the openly hostile administrations of the past and present.
In Aaron’s TAKE, Trump was chastised for failing to make his own bitcoin purchase at a campaign stop at PubKey – a Bitcoin bar in Greenwich Village; and, no stone to throw here. I was pleased that Trump accepted PubKey owner Thomas Pacchia’s invitation to campaign (and as I understand it, that was an invitation extended to both VP Harris and Trump, only Trump accepted). The transaction was an act, fueled by the community, and it was a well-received moment to celebrate that small business and the global network of Bitcoin businesses that have struggled to achieve this level of political acceptance.
Like others, you may be wondering if donations and votes are the reason for Trump’s interest in Bitcoin. Does it really matter what drives any of us as we strive for the common good? We are a diverse society with different reasons for accepting Bitcoin – whether it is the desire for financial sovereignty, the opportunity to invest, the inability to buy basic things during a protest, distrust of the existing financial system and, yes, even politicians who want Bitcoin. community support through donations and votes.
The Bitcoin Community knows that Bitcoin will thrive and prosper despite politics; however, not all issues are political. At the Nashville Bitcoin 2024 conference (and the Libertarian National Convention), Trump said in no uncertain terms that he would fire Ross Ulbricht if given the chance as President. The Ulbricht family needs a miracle, and Trump is committed to delivering it.
I had the great opportunity to meet Trump backstage at Bitcoin 2024 (and two strong, smart women – his granddaughter Kai and his mother Vanessa). I found Trump to be warm, humorous, and sincere. I wholeheartedly welcome Trump on Bitcoin and appreciate the bipartisanship support for freeing Ross and our hyperbitcoinization mission.
