No. 5 Texas Longhorns and the No. 4 Arizona State Sun Devils will meet in the second round of the College Football Playoffs (CFP). The Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl will take place at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia on Wednesday, Jan. 1, and is scheduled to begin at 1 pm ET/10 am PT.
Texas is 12-2 overall and is coming off a 38-24 win over the Clemson Tigers in the first round. Arizona State is 11-2 and earned the No. 4 seed after a 45-19 win over the Iowa State Cyclones in the Big 12 Conference Championship. That win, Arizona State’s sixth in a row, earned the Sun Devils a first-round bye in the new 12-team CFP format.
The Longhorns were headed for SEC glory, and the No. Both of the Longhorns’ losses this year came at the hands of those pesky Georgia Bulldogs.
The Sun Devils come into this game as they have been all season. Arizona State didn’t grace the CFP Top 25 until Week 12, and star running back Cam Skattebo wasn’t named one of the four finalists for the Heisman Trophy, finishing fifth with 170 points and three first-place votes. But, they also face two problems: first, wide receiver Jordyn Tyson had season-ending surgery before the Big 12 tournament. Second, star defensive player Shamari Simmons will be out for the first half after a penalty against Iowa State.
The betting odds currently favor the Longhorns.
