India experienced a significant drop in temperature in the last 24 hours, with temperatures dropping to 4-8°C in the plains of Northwest India and most of Central India.
Eastern and Western regions also saw cooler conditions, with temperatures between 8-14°C. While most areas recorded a drop of 1-2°C, exceptions like West Uttar Pradesh and parts of Saurashtra noted a slight rise in temperature.
Cold conditions were more prominent in Northwest and Central India, where temperatures remained below normal for this time of the year.
In contrast, the Southern Peninsula saw near-average temperatures. Isolated places in East Uttar Pradesh, East Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh recorded sharply below normal temperatures, with a deviation of -5°C or more. Adampur IAF in Punjab stood out as the coldest place, registering a minimum of 1.3°C.
Residents of Delhi woke up early on Sunday as the mercury dipped to 4.9°C according to Safdarjung, the city’s main weather station, marking a sharp drop of 3°C in the last 24 hours. In Palam, the minimum temperature was slightly higher at 6.2°C but still showing a slight decrease.
Forecasts indicate that temperatures in Northwest and West India are expected to remain stable for the next five days, while Central India will see a gradual rise of 2-3°C after a short period of stabilization. Similarly, East India will experience a slight rise in temperatures following the stabilization day.
A cold wave to cold wave conditions is likely to grip parts of Madhya Pradesh on December 15, East Rajasthan is looking at a similar spell from December 17 to 20.
Other states, including Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi, are also on alert for cold wave conditions between December 15 and 19.

Dense fog is expected to blanket parts of Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Northeast India on December 16 and 17, reducing visibility. .
