BRS working president KT Rama Rao, popularly known as KTR, on Thursday challenged Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, urging him to initiate a discussion in the Telangana Assembly on the Formula E race controversy.
The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) filed a corruption case against KTR for alleged irregularities in the Formula E race held in Hyderabad in February 2023. The ACB alleged that Rs 55 crore was transferred to Formula E organizers at the behest of KTR, who has strongly denied the claims.
In a letter to the Chief Minister, KTR, who is accused of wrongdoing in the matter, accused the Congress government of making baseless allegations against him and the previous BRS government regarding the international racing event.
“Your government has been spreading lies about the Formula E race for months. Even in this week’s cabinet meeting. Reports indicate that this topic was discussed for more than an hour. The leak from your office suggests plans to file a case on this matter,” said KTR.
He asked for transparency, and suggested that this issue be discussed openly in Parliament. “The truth must come out before the masses of the people of Telangana. Let us present all the facts in detail on the platform of the Assembly,” he added.
KTR defended the BRS government’s deal with Formula E organizers, describing it as a strategy to boost Telangana’s economy and Hyderabad’s global image. “The race was successfully held in 2023, injecting Rs 700 crore into the country’s economy, according to a Nielsen report. It has received praise from all parties,” he said.
He criticized the Congress government for canceling the 2024 race plan after assuming office, saying the decision was motivated by political vendetta. KTR reiterated that all agreements and payments were transparent and error-free.
Seeking accountability, KTR said, “The people of Telangana have the right to know the truth. Please organize discussions on this issue in Parliament during the ongoing session.”
He expressed confidence that the debate will expose the baselessness of the Congress government’s claims and confirm the benefits that the Formula E race has brought to the state.
