After three spectators at the air show died in Chennai and more than 200 were injured during the event, Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma Subramanian said the state government had provided more resources than the Indian Air Force had requested.
A record 16 lakh people flocked to the Marina Beach on Sunday to witness a spectacular air show to mark the 92nd anniversary of Indian Air Force Day, but many had to turn down the barrel due to the chaos. At least three spectators died and 230 others were hospitalized due to dehydration.
The health minister mentioned the resources provided for the event, saying that the provincial government has done more than what was requested by the IAF.
According to Subramanian, two health teams with doctors and nurses, and 40 ambulances have been deployed in the area. He also said that first aid teams and drinking water have been organized at Marina Beach. The Indian Army has also formed medical teams.
Chennai police said in a statement on October 4, 6,500 policemen and 1,500 home guards to control the crowd during the event.
The authorities continue to be criticized for the lack of proper crowd management and security measures during the air show.
Tamil Nadu BJP chief K Annamalai criticized the ruling DMK government and called for Chief Minister MK Stalin to respond to what he described as the “plight of hundreds of families” affected by the disaster.
