A political uproar has erupted in Tamil Nadu after state Congress chief K Selvaperunthagai extended an invitation to the actor-turned-politician again. Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) officer Vijay to join the opposition of INDIA. Selvaperunthagai’s suggestion came after Vijay, in his recent public address, spoke about fighting against divisive forces in the country.
“In his public address, Vijay talked about religious forces and Hindutva. If he really wishes to eliminate such elements, joining the INDIA coalition would be beneficial for him and the nation. As a citizen of India, this is my humble suggestion,” the Tamil Nadu Congress official said, inviting an immediate response from -BJP.
Tamil Nadu BJP chief K Annamalai took a jibe at Selvaperunthagai’s proposal to Vijay and asked the Congress to have faith in the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi.
“The situation is that even Dravidian parties are inviting Vijay to get political support. Parties are coming down in Tamil Nadu to seek his help. Instead of relying on Vijay, I urge Selvaperunthagai to put at least 10 percent of his confidence. He is in Vijay through Rahul Gandhi,” said Annamalai.
Notably, actor Vijay, while launching his party last year, called the BJP and Tamil Nadu’s Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) his ‘ideological’ and ‘political’ opponents. Since then, the TVK boss has been issuing statements against the DMK regime led by Chief Minister MK Stalin in Tamil Nadu.
Last week, the actor-turned-politician made the announcement His party will boycott the Erode East Assembly polls scheduled for February 5, which coincides with the stand of opposition parties, including All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), BJP and Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK).
