Tabassum Rao, wife of Dinesh Gundu Rao, complains to the women’s commission against the BJP for ‘continuing insults and social references’ against her.

Tabassum Rao, wife of Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao, on Friday complained to the Karnataka State Women’s Commission against the BJP for its “continuing disrespect and public references” against her.

In her complaint, Ms. Rao mentioned the derogatory remarks against her, against her community, made by the BJP on X (formerly Twitter). “As the wife of Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao, I have been unfairly attacked and targeted in society just because of my marriage and my Muslim faith.”

He said he had already filed a defamation case against BJP leader Basanagouda Patil Yatnal over his derogatory comments, but “it has become a regular thing, BJP leaders and social media have targeted me many times.”

‘It doesn’t come into politics’

“As a person who does not get involved in politics, I find it suspicious that my life and society are being dragged into politics. It is not acceptable to target family members of politicians just because of their relationship. I request the commission to take strict action against the State BJP office bearers and those who manage their social media accounts with these defamatory statements,” he said in the complaint.

He said that action should be taken to “say insulting words to him, damage his reputation and cause emotional distress; making public references, promoting hatred and intolerance in his community; directing family members; to draw members of politicians’ families into the conversation, despite not being involved in politics.”

“I urge the commission to immediately address this issue and ensure that similar incidents do not happen again.” I request you to take appropriate measures to protect my dignity and protect me from abuse,” he added.
