BJP MLC Dhananjaya Sarji alleged that unknown persons sent suspicious boxes in his name to several people in Shivamogga, as a way of extending New Year’s wishes.
His office has lodged a complaint with the Shivamogga police in this regard.
Speaking to the media here on Friday, Dr. Sarji said he received information from SN Nagaraj, secretary of the National Education Society, on Wednesday that he had found a “sweet box” and a letter purportedly written by him. [Dr. Sarji] extending wishes for the New Year. As he tasted “sweet”, he found it bitter and unpleasant. He calls him and suggests that he take steps to ensure that others do not eat it, which leaves Dr. Sarji shocked.
“My office and I did not send the box to anyone. Unknown people sent a box and a letter on my behalf. I quickly brought it to the police, who have started an investigation,” he said.
Dr.’s assistant Sarji, Sachin Raj, lodged a complaint at the Kote police station on Wednesday. The police have registered a case under Section 123 of the BNS, which deals with the act of harming another person by poisoning or any other dangerous substance.
Meanwhile, it has been noticed that two other people in Shivamogga have received the same boxes. According to the preliminary investigation of the case, the boxes were sent from Bhadravati through a private courier service agency.
The police are trying to identify who sent the boxes, and their contents have been sent to be tested in a laboratory.
