SP NIA Deputy, Two Others Arrested For Accepting Bribe Of Rs 20 Lakh To Give Mercy In Case

The CBI team has arrested the accused who are very close to Deputy SP Ajay Pratap Singh who is accused of accepting a bribe of Rs 20 lakhs from the complainant in the case.

The CBI has arrested the Deputy SP of NIA’s Patna branch along with two others for allegedly getting an undue opportunity to show favor in the ongoing investigation of the case.

The CBI team has arrested dealers who are very close to the accused Deputy SP Ajay Pratap Singh who accepted a bribe of Rs 20 lakhs from the complainant in the case.

The complainant spoke to the CBI alleging that the officer was extorting money from him by threatening to implicate his family in a criminal case and lying to his family about keeping illegal weapons. It was revealed that the National Investigation Agency (NIA) registered a case in connection with the matter and they searched on September 19, 2024 at the complainant’s residence and office.

After this search, as an Investigator, said Deputy SP issued a notice on September 24, 2024, summoning the complainant to appear at the NIA office in Patna on September 26, 2024.

During his interrogation, it is alleged that the deputy SP of the accused threatened the complainant with a criminal case against him and that he will face dire consequences. In order to help him escape, this official is said to have demanded a bribe of Rs 2.5 million.

Under pressure, the complainant allegedly accepted the bribe to protect his family from false charges. The accused SP deputy asked the complainant to pay the first installment of Rs 25 lakh on the same day of September 26, 2024 and gave him a handwritten note with the mobile number of the middleman.

After that, the complainant allegedly arranged Rs 25 lakh and instructed his relative to bring the money to him after contacting the number provided. As instructed, the money was sent to the recipient, who arrived in Aurangabad, Bihar.

It was revealed that the deputy SP was in contact with the middlemen who were present in Aurangabad, Bihar, around 11:30 PM on the day of the incident on September 26, 2024, confirming the reported delivery of the bribe.

A few days later, the complainant was again summoned by the deputy SP to appear before the NIA office in Patna on October 1.

The complainant appeared before the deputy SP in his office on the date fixed by him. A demand was then made for a bribe of Rs 70 Lakh, with a direction to deliver Rs 35 Lakh on the same day to Patna.

The accused Deputy SP also gave him a handwritten note with a mobile phone number and later the complainant contacted the number given and asked for time to arrange it and confirmed that it will be delivered on October 3 to Gaya.

In collaboration with the NIA, a case under section 7,12 of the PC Act (As amended in 2018) read with Section 308(6) and Section 61(2) of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita was registered on October 3 against the deputy SP of -NIA and two middlemen and others unknown.

Searches are being conducted at many places in Gaya, Patna and Varanasi and the investigation of the case is still going on. Many incriminating documents and digital devices have been recovered so far during the search in addition to a bribe of Rs 20 Lakhs.
