South Mumbai institute receives emails against professor; the case is filed

The police said that in these emails, the sender said that professors are not interested in teaching and only come to talk to girls and female workers.

According to police officials, the emails were received by the agency on July 12, 2023, and September 20 and 23, 2024.

These officials said that in the first email received on July 12 last year, the person who sent himself pretended to be an employee of this college and said that there is a male professor who calls and sends messages to female employees at night. The dispatcher asked the management to install CCTV cameras for the safety of the women.

Officials at the center ignored the email, believing it to be a prank. However, the principal and management of the college received another email at 11:32 in the morning on September 20, in which the person who sent it pretending to be a first-year student in the college said that the professors were not interested in teaching and that the quality of education had been found. he refused.

“The email also insulted a male professor of the institute and threatened to complain to the Shiv Sena and called for a protest against the poor standard of education,” the official said.
Later, when the institute received another email on September 23, the principal and the male professor reported to the police station, after which a case was registered under Section 79 (defamation of a woman with intent) and Section 356(2) (defamation). ) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and Section 67(A) of the IT Act.

“We have registered a case, and efforts are being made to find the suspect. “We have started to scrutinize the IP addresses of the e-mail accounts where the harassing e-mails were sent,” said the investigator.
