Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar on Friday complained that the reference to Sanatan and Hindus in India is creating a confused reaction from the “misguided” people.
He also said that people who respond to these words without understanding the depth of the words and their deep meaning are “misguided” souls driven by a “dangerous natural system”.
Addressing the International Congress of Vedanta organized at JNU here, Dhankhar said it is strange and sad that in this country “referring to Sanatan, referring to Hindus evokes a reaction that is confusing beyond understanding”. “Instead of understanding the depth of these words, their deep meaning, people tend to be in the mood to react when the hat comes down,” he said.
Dhankhar called such people “deluded souls”. He said such people “are driven by a dangerous environment that is not only a threat to society but to themselves”.
The vice president said that at a time when the world’s disciplines are embracing Vedanta philosophy, there are “some in this spiritual world” who dismiss Vedanta and Sanatani texts as “regressive”.
“This expulsion often stems from distorted, colonialist ideas, and a misunderstanding of our intellectual heritage. These elements, working in a systematic way, in the wrong way, the design is dangerous. They hide their destructive thought process with distorted versions of religion. This is very dangerous,” said Dhankhar.
This intolerance, he pointed out, undermines our democratic principles, disrupts social peace and does not allow productivity. “In every respect, it leads to disaster and failure,” he said.
Speaking about the disruption in Parliament, he said that “talk” and “discussions” are important.
“The right to speak is a gift from God. Its reduction, its dilution in any way is not healthy and this brings into the picture another aspect, dialogue. If you have the right to speak, (but) don’t get involved in the discussion so things won’t go well. Both must go hand in hand,” said Dhankhar, who is also the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha.
