Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Saturday (January 11, 2025) announced that seven special courts will hear cases related to sexual harassment of women. These courts will be set up in Madurai, Tirunelveli, Coimbatore, Salem, Tiruchi, and Chennai and neighboring areas.

In his response to the Governor’s speech in Council, Mr. Stalin said that a special committee headed by the Strained Superintendent of Police (ASP) will be set up to speed up the trial in all the districts of the State.

He said that the Tamil Nadu Jail Rules, 1983, would be amended to ensure that accused persons in sexual assault cases do not get bail.

Earlier in the day, the Assembly passed the Laws of Criminal Procedure (Tamil Nadu Amendment) Bill, 2025, and the Tamil Nadu Prevention of Atrocities against Women (Amendment) Bill, 2025. These bills were moved by Hon. Stalin in the Council on Friday (January 10, 2025).
