Seven people were injured in the explosion of the reactor plant in IDA Bolarum


About seven employees of Sreekara Organics Limited were injured when a reactor exploded at the industrial unit in IDA Bolarum on Monday night.

The victims have been identified as Ishwar Chandra Agarya, Pushpa Raj, Sundar Singh, Brijesh, Chand Pratap, Shaikh Anwar and Nilesh Singh, all aged between 20-25 and natives of Madhya Pradesh.

IDA Bolarum inspector Ravinder said Ishwar and Pushpa, who were very close to the reactor, sustained about 40% injuries, and were being treated at Apollo DRDO Hospital in Kanchanbagh. Others who were burned by the lights were treated at a private hospital in Madinaguda.

The incident was reported between 8.30 and 9 pm on Monday and the local police then tried to put out the fire and evacuate the injured. According to preliminary investigations, the explosion was caused by a reactor dryer when workers were putting wet powder into it, the official said.

Police officers from IDA Bolarum and the Factories Department investigated the area on Tuesday morning. The management has been booked for negligence and the investigation is ongoing to determine their role in the accident.
