The New Orleans Saints lost their third straight on Monday, and it wasn’t the only bad news for the team.
Quarterback Derek Carr, who sat out the Saints’ 26-13 road loss to the Kansas City Chiefs with a groin injury, is headed for an MRI to determine the extent of the disease.
His response after the game when asked how he felt?
“It’s not good,” Carr said. “We’re going to get an MRI and all that kind of stuff tomorrow and find out.”
The injury occurred when Carr threw an incompletion on fourth-and-8 at the Kansas City 42-yard line with the Saints down 10 early in the fourth quarter.
Carr was hit by a Chiefs linebacker in the game, but he said he was hurt by the throw, not the hit.
He was hoping that he would be able to return to the game, but he soon realized that was not going to happen.
“It wasn’t like dealing with the pain. … I couldn’t do what I needed to do,” Carr said. “In a simple way … I asked if there was anything (the medical staff) could do about it, and there wasn’t enough time to do that. So, I would have done anything to be there and keep fighting, but I couldn’t.
Jake Haener took over as the Saints’ quarterback on the final offensive drive, and completed 2 of 7 passes for 17 yards as New Orleans turned the ball over down the field again.
Carr finished the night 18 of 28 for 165 yards with two touchdown passes and one interception. On the season, the 33-year-old veteran is completing 70.3 percent of his passes for 989 yards with eight touchdowns and four interceptions for the Saints (2-3).
The four-time Pro Bowler owns a 74-90 career record as a starter for the Oakland/Las Vegas Raiders (2014-22) and New Orleans (2023-24).
