The protesting junior doctors in West Bengal resumed their ‘complete strike’ on Tuesday to demand various demands, including ensuring their safety and security in all medical facilities.
Earlier on September 21, junior doctors returned to their work in government hospitals after a 42-day protest following rape and rape. the killing of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical Center and hospital.
Speaking about their demands, the representatives of the protesting doctors said, “We are saddened about the slow progress of the shocking investigation of RG Kar. In the last 50 days, only a few percent of CCTV cameras have been installed in government hospitals. The attack on the doctors of Sagar Dutta Medical College and Hospital shows the security not enough for doctors…”
“We feel unsafe in this terrible situation of fear. The dissolution of the ‘Rogi Kalyan Committees’ in the government hospital did not happen as confirmed by the Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. We want the health secretary of the state to be removed immediately from his job,” they said.
“Ten days have passed since we continued the work but there is no guarantee given to us by the government. We do not see any progress in this regard. At the moment we have not found a place to work without fear in government-run hospitals. We are now starting again in full. They should stop working from today until our demands are met,” he added.
The junior doctors have also called for a march from College Square to Dharmatala in central Kolkata on Wednesday and invited people from all walks of life to join them.
“We are asking for a march and meeting on October 2, in Malaya. It will go from College Square to Dharmatala where there will be a meeting. We urge people from all walks of life to join us in this meeting,” the young doctors. said in a statement.
The junior doctors say that justice to the trainee doctor continues to be on their demand and should be served immediately without further delay in the form of a lengthy judicial process.
