If you’re a word lover and a game lover like me, then prepare to join me in the joy – and, ultimately, the frustration – as there is a type of daily word puzzle. New York-based art collective MSCHF launched an AOL-style chat room called Redact-A-Chat that checks a word each time someone uses it. Josh Wardle, the creator of Wordle, recently worked at MSCHF there for a few years.
So, how does it work? There is a main discussion forum where you can write anything, but if the word is repeated, then it is covered with a blue line and is unavailable for the rest of the day. I have to try it earlier, and it seems that duplicate words in sentences also lead to the second speech being blurred. All words become fair game and midnight. Announcements about recently checked words and when the time is up also appear on three safety pins with one eye reminiscent of Microsoft Word’s safety pin.
In a statement, MSCHF said that Redact-A-Chat “enforces intelligent communication. You must always be in front of the censor to continue your conversation. On the other hand, you can be this a** hole that starts working its way. dictionary to rob everyone of their language.”
If you are not sure about participating in the main room, you can start a chat with your friends. You just click the button to create a chat room, give it a name and it will appear. You can then invite other people to the group with a different code.
