The cause of death of Maco, whose real name is Benedict Chiajulam Ihesiba Jr., has not been made public. Earlier it was reported that he had a gunshot wound. TMZ reported earlier this month that police were called to Maco’s Los Angeles home after shots were fired. According to the outlet, Maco was then taken to a local hospital for surgery.

“He is currently in critical but stable condition,” a Dec. 16 statement from Macy’s family read. “He is receiving the best care and we are always hopeful as he continues to fight. … Thank you for your understanding, support and continued prayers during this difficult time.”

Maco is survived by his parents and older sister.
