Many are saying that the year 2024 is definitely the year of Telugu cinema given the ridiculous success Pushpa 2: Law and Kalki 2898 AD. However, maverick filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has an interesting take on the same. In an interview on his YouTube channel, RGV said, “Honestly, I don’t think we should link the rise to one year. The film process takes 4-5 years from conception, to production, to production, right? Also, we have done around 150 Telugu films, and only one or two made the cut. What about the others?”

It is interesting that Ram Gopal Varma and spoke about the real impact of the SS Rajamouli brand of films. “Frankly, I will continue to say that every Telugu film cannot be given full credit. It is one man… SS Rajamouli. He might have come from Tamil or Malayalam, or Gujarati cinema. It’s just a coincidence that he belongs to Telugu cinema. Well, he made Baahubali, and he set an important benchmark,” said RGV, adding, “Baahubali was not only about beauty, but it was also about making filmmakers believe that budgets can be recouped.”
The filmmaker also revealed that there have been many films that have tried to emulate the success of Baahubali, but they have not delivered the same results. “Baahubali has also proved that people will not flock to theaters if the big-ticket films do not have high-end prices. But it wasn’t enough if the films already had big shots, good vfx, good sets, etc… After They singmany people tried to make similar films, but it ended up being wrong,” said RGV, adding that the makers of Baahubali took a leap of faith because Rajamouli proved his authenticity in Magadheera.

“Filmmakers are starting to believe that if they spend enough money on making a good movie, they can recoup the cost. That confidence was given by Rajamouli,” signed Ram Gopal Varma.
