An inquest was held after Rajasthan Administrative Service (RAS) officer Priyanka Bishnoi died two weeks after undergoing surgery at a hospital in Jodhpur. Surgeons are accused of medical negligence.
Bishnoi, a 2016 batch RAS officer who was working as an Assistant Collector in Jodhpur, saw his condition deteriorate during treatment at Vasundhara Hospital. His family shifted him to SIMS Hospital in Ahmedabad, where he died on Wednesday night. His death has led to an outpouring of grief on social media as many want strict measures to be taken against those involved.
After his death, District Collector Gaurav Agarwal ordered the principal of Dr SN Medical College to investigate the claims of a private hospital. Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma expressed grief, while Bishnoi community leader Devendra Budhia urged the Chief Minister to initiate a CBI probe into the matter.
Following Agarwal’s instructions, Dr Bharati Saraswat, Principal of Dr SN Medical College, formed a five-member team of doctors to investigate the case.
Dr. Sanjay Makwana who is the director of Vasundhara Hospital responded to these allegations of medical negligence. He said that after her surgery on September 5, Priyanka was stable around the clock, but in the morning, she started to get upset.
Blood tests revealed an electrolyte imbalance, and he was transferred to the ICU for further treatment. Despite this, his anger continued. A series of tests including an abdominal scan and an echocardiogram were performed, explained Dr. Makwana.
A neurologist was contacted to determine the cause of his discomfort. Finally, the family asked him to be transferred to Ahmedabad for further treatment. When he got there, a CT scan revealed multiple brain bleeds, which were caused by an arteriovenous malformation (AVM), a congenital condition.
