Railways unveils Vande Bharat, specially designed for winter in J&K, for Katra-Srinagar route

The Railway Board on Tuesday (January 8, 2025) launched the Vande Bharat Express train, specially designed to operate seamlessly in the challenging winter conditions of Jammu and Kashmir, on the upcoming Katra-Srinagar railway line.

The route is currently under inspection by the Railroad Safety Commissioner, officials said.

Stationed at the Shakurbasti coach depot in New Delhi, the train has special weather-related features, according to the Railways.

Explaining its features to the interlocutors, railway officials said the train has several additional features compared to the other 136 Vande Bharat Expresses running in different parts of the country to meet operational challenges and passenger services in severe weather. of JK.

“It has a pre-heater that prevents freezing of the water tank and bio-toilet tanks, provides warm air for the exhaust system and laboratories and ensures that the air-brake system works properly to function well even in sub-zero temperatures,” said Dileep Kumar. , Executive Director (Information and Public) Railway Board.

He added, “It has installed heating elements in the windshield so that the driver’s front view glass can be cut automatically to ensure clear visibility in harsh winter conditions.”

Board officials said that apart from climate-related features, it has all the other facilities that the existing Vande Bharat trains have – fully air-conditioned, auto plug doors, mobile charging sockets etc.

By successfully connecting the Kashmir Valley to the national rail network, the train is a symbol of India’s commitment to bridging geopolitical and economic gaps, a Railways press release said.
