Congress member Rahul Gandhi has called a review meeting on Congress’ poll readiness for the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections. The assembly is very important for the Congress following its shock loss in Haryana, where it could not raise money to fight the BJP for a decade.
Gandhi’s deputy is expected to meet Maharashtra Congress chief Nana Patole and other party leaders, including Vijay Wadettiwar, Prithviraj Chavan, Balasaheb Thorat, Varsha Gaikwad and Ramesh Chennithala. The meeting will be held at the Congress headquarters in Delhi at 10 am.
Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge is expected to attend the meeting.
The party, which pollsters predicted an outright victory for the party in Haryana, lost to the BJP, winning 37 of the 90 seats in Parliament. The saffron party won 48 seats. Many members of INDIA questioned the strategy of the Congress in the northern state and asked the party to see it.
Today’s Maharashtra Congress poll readiness meeting is also important as several Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) members are seeking more seats to contest the state elections.
MVA has three main parties – Congress, Shiv Sena party led by Uddhav Thackeray, and NCP party led by Sharad Pawar.
Maharashtra, which has 288 Assembly seats, is expected to go to polls next month or in December.
