Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday (December 10, 2024) met the families of the victims of the Sambhal violence at his residence at 10 Janpath and offered them all possible help to ensure justice.
Wayanad MP and Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was also present in the meeting.
The Congress later said in a post to X, “Today, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi and Congress General Secretary and Member of Parliament Priyanka Gandhi met the victims of Sambhal. The incident in Sambhal is a side effect of BJP’s hate politics and it is killing a peaceful society.”
It also said, “Together, we must overcome this sense of violence and hatred with love and brotherhood.” The Congress asserted that it stands with all the victims and will fight for justice.
The Uttar Pradesh government had earlier denied permission to both Mr. Gandhi and Ms. Vadra went to Sambhal and visited the families of the victims.

Mr. Gandhi called the act “unconstitutional”.
After being stopped at the Ghazipur border, Mr. Gandhi said he was ready to go to Sambhal alone with the police but he was not allowed.
Violence broke out during a court-ordered search of a Mughal mosque in Sambhal on November 24 when protesters clashed with security forces. In this incident, four people died and many were injured.
