The contractual workers of Punjab Roadways and Pepsu Road Transportation Corporation started a three-day strike on Monday (January 6, 2025) to press for their demands, including the certification of their jobs.
As a result of this strike, passengers have been stranded at various bus terminals in the province.
According to the protesters, around 2,800 buses of Punjab Roadways and Pepsu Road Transportation Corporation (PRTC) remained on the roads.
Punjab Roadways, Punbus, PRTC Contract Workers’ Union president Resham Singh Gill said around 8,000 contract workers participated in the strike.
Protests were held at all 27 bus terminals across the province, he said.
The contract workers wanted regularization of their jobs and increased wages, among other things, Gill said.

A few days ago, the union held a meeting with Punjab Transport Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar regarding its demands but there was no solution, he said.
The protesters said they will march towards Prime Minister Bhagwant Mann’s residence here on Tuesday as part of their protest.
