President Biden Farewell Address Live Updates: US President Joe Biden is about to deliver a farewell speech to the nation on Wednesday night (local time), which could be his last chance to reshape American perceptions of his position four years ago before he leaves the White House. It will be President Biden’s fifth and final speech from the Oval Office. Six months back, he had announced that he would not run for the presidency.
President Biden’s speech, scheduled for 8 pm ET Wednesday (6 am IST Thursday) in the Oval Office, will include his remarks on the domestic politics and foreign relations that have cemented his legacy. Earlier in the day, Biden led his team in finalizing a historic ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas to end the 15-month war. American hostages will be among those released in the first phase, Biden said.
However, President Biden is not leaving the White House as he would have dreamed as he announced his exit from the US presidential election in July 2024 and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as a candidate for the Democrats. He initially tried to run for office and brushed aside voters’ concerns that he would be 86 by the end of his second term. In a farewell letter, Biden wrote that “it has been the privilege of my life to serve this nation for more than 50 years.”
