Pregnant women passengers at new Pune airport for pickup service | Pune news

Pregnant women arriving at Terminal 2 of the Pune International Airport (PIA) can now avail of a dedicated cab service to take them to their destination.

Pick-up service at the newly opened facility will also be available for single female passengers and persons with disabilities (PWD), who would have to go up to the Aeromall parking lot.

The facility has been developed on a pilot basis by PIA and Aeromall Authority.

It has been two months since the new terminal building, which is also called the New Integrated Terminal Building (NITB), started working. According to airport officials, the new terminal has a daily capacity of 8,000 to 9,000 passengers.

Santosh Dhoke, director of Pune Airport, pointed out that there are very few airports in the country that have a system, which has been implemented at the airport. “Currently, the van service is only available for women and passengers with disabilities, and others are not allowed to use this service from new arrivals,” he said.

Festive offer

“At most airports in India, passengers have to walk to the pick-up areas, but Pune has introduced this to improve service for a select group,” he added.

YS Rajput, vice president of Aeromall, highlighted that services such as shuttle buses and golf carts are now available from Terminal 2 to the upper level parking lot and many passengers assist women or disabled people in wheelchairs. “But now, passengers don’t have to worry. We also have free buses that run every five minutes,” he said.
