External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Thursday (January 9, 2025) emphasized the importance of the diaspora as India strives to build a “global workforce”.

Addressing the Indian diaspora at the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas meeting in Bhubaneswar, Mr. Jaishankar said that in times of crisis abroad, they can be sure that the Narendra Modi government has “got it back”.

“We are proud of our success in India,” he said.

“In the global era, the diaspora is more important every year, be it technology, best practices or services, be it tourism, trade or investment, two-way travel is very important as we try to create a global workforce. ,” said Jaishankar.

The minister said that the role of those in the diaspora is great as they work as a bridge between India and the countries where they live.

He said that the people-oriented reforms being promoted by the Modi government are also benefiting the diaspora.

“This can improve the ease of doing business, encourage ease of living and ease of communication and travel. The use of digital technology to ensure the well-being of the diaspora is also evident,” he said.

“In the last ten years, we have seen the simplification of passport issues and the renewal and simplification of proofs. Embassies’ services have been improved, social channels have been expanded and complaint forums are active. Embassies and embassies around the world are very responsive. In times of crisis, you can be sure that the Modi government has got you,” he added.
