Places of Worship Act: IUML organizes meeting in Kozhikode

The Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) plans to hold a public meeting in Kozhikode demanding measures to protect the Places of Worship (Special Provisions) Act, 1991.

This was decided at a meeting of the working committee of the party’s State committee in Kozhikode on Thursday (December 12). IUML General Secretary, PK Kunhalikutty and State General Secretary PMA Salam told the media that the date of the meeting will be decided later.

The decision that was issued at the meeting said that the unnecessary claims on some mosques in the country are tantamount to rejecting the Law, which prohibits the modification of any place of worship and provides for the maintenance of the religion of any place of worship as it is. August 15, 1947. The judgment said that if the provisions of the Act had been properly implemented, what happened at Sambhal in Uttar Pradesh could have been avoided.

The working committee also asked the State Government not to consider a legal and factual solution to the Munambam land issue, pointing out that the residents there should not be evicted at any cost. The decision said that the stand taken by IUML State president Panakkad Syed Sadikali Shihab Thangal on the issue is final. The working committee also expressed its concern over the reported attacks on minorities in the country and termed the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024, as a violation of the fundamental rights of believers.
