Newly released film footage of President John F. Kennedy’s motorcycle trip speeding down a Dallas freeway to the hospital after he was seriously injured sold at auction Saturday for $137,500.

This film has been with the family of the man who took it, Dale Carpenter Sr., since it was filmed on November 22, 1963. It starts as Mbazi remembers the car carrying the president and the first lady Jacqueline Kennedy but he photographs other cars. on a motorcycle as we headed down Lemmon Avenue toward the city. The film then begins after Kennedy is shot, with Carpenter rolling over as the motorcycle roars down Interstate 35.
The shots went off as a motorcycle procession passed Dealey Plaza in front of the Texas School Book Depository, where it was later discovered that assassin Lee Harvey Oswald had set up a sixth-floor robbery. The assassination itself was filmed by Abraham Zapruder.

Carpenter’s footage from I-35, which lasts about 10 seconds, shows Secret Service Agent Clint Hill — famous for jumping into the back of a limousine when gunfire erupted — walking over the president and Jacqueline Kennedy, in a suit his pink. it is visible. The president was pronounced dead on arrival at Parkland Memorial Hospital.

Bobby Livingston, the auction’s senior vice president, said in a news release that the film “provides a sense of urgency and heartbreak.”
Carpenter’s grandson, James Gates, said that although it was known in his family that his grandfather had a film from that day, it was not often talked about. So Gates said that when the film, stored along with other family films in a milk crate, was finally passed on to him, he wasn’t sure what his grandfather, who died in 1991 at the age of 77, had captured.
Displaying it on his bedroom wall in 2010, the gates were first attacked by pictures from Lemmon Avenue. However, a video from I-35 played before his eyes. “That was shocking,” he said.
The auction house has released stills from the portion of the film showing the race down I-35, but is not releasing video of that portion publicly.
