Basketball guard Jose Alvarado recently signed a two-year, $9 million contract with the New Orleans Pelicans.
Alvarado’s Continued Journey with the Pelicans
At age 26, Alvarado had just one year and $1.9 million left on his previous contract. The new deal cements his place on the Pelicans’ roster through the 2025-26 season, with an option for the player to extend through the 2026-27 season.
Standing at 6 feet, Alvarado has quickly become a crowd favorite, known for his tireless efforts and intense hustle on the court. He has been part of the Pelicans for the past three years. His journey with the team began in 2021 on a two-way contract, following a successful four-year stint at Georgia Tech.
Alvarado’s Performance and Future Role
Alvarado’s last season saw him average 7.1 points and 2.1 assists per game over 56 games for the Pelicans. His dedication and hard work made him finish sixth in the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year competition.
As the new season begins, Alvarado is expected to replace Dejounte Murray as the second team point guard. Murray, who was traded to New Orleans from the Atlanta Hawks in June, will be the lead.
