ChatGPT finally gets the much-anticipated Enhanced Voice Mode, which enables “more conversational and natural communication.” Powered by GPT-4, the new voice mode can follow non-verbal cues and respond with emotion.
In a blog post, OpenAI said Enhanced Voice Mode will first be available to ChatGPT Plus and Teams subscribers, while Enterprise and Edu users will get it sometime next week. Instead of the black animated dots, which OpenAI showed at its event earlier this year in May, the Enhanced Voice Mode will be shown as a blue animated circle.
Besides the new voice chat mode, ChatGPT also gets 5 new voices – Arbor, Maple, Sol, Spruce and Vale, making the total number of available voices nine. However, Sky’s controversial voice, which sounds a lot like Scarlett Johansson, is still missing.
Advanced Voice is broadcast to all Plus and Team users on the ChatGPT app during the week.

How to access ChatGPT’s new voice mode?
To use the new voice mode, open the ChatGPT app on your device and start a voice chat by tapping the “voice” icon in the lower right corner of the screen.
Doing so will open a new window with a blue orb in it. However, the OpenAI support document suggests that your use of Enhanced Voice Mode is limited daily and that daily limits may change. The company says users will be “notified when there are 15 minutes left of advanced voice for the day.”
If you see a black orb, the new Advanced Voice Mode is not available for you and it may take some time for it to show up in your account. Last week, OpenAI started rolling out o1-mini support to free users.
