One Nation, No Election: KC Venugopal slams BJP for One Nation, One Election – Kerala News

All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary KC Venugopal on Tuesday accused the ruling BJP-led Center of trying to undermine the democratic process with the ‘One Nation, One Election’ proposal.

“The clear objective of ‘One Nation, One Election’ is ‘one nation, no elections’,” Venugopal said while talking to reporters.

He pointed out that the BJP’s main agenda is to “destroy the democratic process” by introducing this concept, calling it ineffective and unlikely to be passed in Parliament.

“Karnataka has its own technology, Kerala has its own, and similarly, Manipur and Jammu & Kashmir have their own distinct identity. “Unity in diversity is the beauty of the country, but BJP does not believe in democracy or diversity,” said Venugopal.

The two laws, which set the course for simultaneous elections across the country, were introduced in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday amid intense debate. The opposition parties strongly oppose the draft laws, which include the Constitution amendment bill and the general bill, calling it an attack on the structure of the nation state.

Venugopal also emphasized that holding elections at the same time is not practical given the diversity of states and regions in India. “This does not work at all. I do not see that it will be passed in Parliament. Let’s see,” he added.

The government, however, rejected what the opposition said, saying that these laws aim to delay the election process and reduce the frequency of elections. These rules were introduced after the opposition party demanded that votes be split during the assembly.
