The Kerala State Child Rights Commission has directed that health insurance be ensured to all children with Type 1 diabetes in the State.
F. Wilson, a member of the State Commission for Child Rights, directed the Additional Chief Secretary (Health and Family Welfare) to ensure that all children with Type 1 diabetes in the State are covered by coverage under the Karunya Arogya Suraksha Padhati of the State government. or the Mittayi program run by the State Social Security Mission.
The commission also ordered the Ministry of Health to take necessary steps to periodically review the policies and practices of private health insurance companies and to ensure that social justice is never denied.
The commission gave the order in a case where a mother went to claim that many insurance companies, including Star Health insurance company, refused to provide health insurance for her child with type 1 diabetes. He called for legal action against insurance companies that discriminate against children and called for insurance coverage for children suffering from Type 1 diabetes.
The commission also ordered the Department of Health to provide a report on the action taken on this order within 60 days.
