I hope he had a better weekend than Baltimore Ravens tight end Mark Andrews.
Andrews was the victim of Baltimore’s 27-25 division loss to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday after dropping two points that, if caught, would have tied the game with 1:33 left in the fourth quarter.
The Ravens found the end zone after moving 88 yards in less than two minutes before Andrews made all their hard work come to nothing.
To make matters worse, Andrews fumbled again early in the fourth quarter, and Buffalo turned the fumble into a 21-yard field goal from Tyler Bass that made it 27-19.
Talk about a bad day at the office.
Andrews finished with five catches for 61 yards, and now finds himself under a barrage of derogatory comments on social media—to put it mildly.
One account on X compared Andrews’ post-match Instagram direct messages to a video of the late Mexican singer Chalino Sanchez looking distraught during a live performance after receiving an alleged death note.
And you can bet that Andrews definitely has those kinds of messages in his inbox right now. If you’re one of the people who posted, it’s time to get some serious help.
Now, Andrews isn’t entirely to blame when it comes to the Bills’ loss, but to completely single him out and ignore the other factors that contributed to Baltimore’s season ending is incredibly irresponsible.
Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson was also sloppy, throwing a pick in the first quarter and losing a fumble in the second that translated into a 1-yard touchdown run by Bills signal-caller Josh Allen.
This is not us encouraging you to start sending your death threats to a different player, though. You should, however, look at all 60 minutes of the game and realize that winning and losing very, very rarely come down to one game.
Andrews’ descent will naturally be a game remembered for years to come. Baltimore fans will have to sit with him for a long time. There was a lot going back on Sunday, and it would be a shame to let such a low light wash over seven solid NFL seasons for Andrews, all of which were spent wearing the purple and black.
It’s not often that we see fans rallying around a player following a major tragedy like Andrews did, but maybe something will change here. No one has scored more touchdowns in Ravens franchise history than Andrews, so it’s safe to say he deserves the nod.
And, it won’t be long until Baltimore is back in the divisional round. I hope Andrews gets his chance to redeem himself when that time comes.
