NIA raids Delhi’s Jamia Nagar in connection with ‘cyber slavery’ case

The NIA conducted a search at the recently arrested accused’s house in Delhi’s Jamia Nagar as part of its investigation into the case of human trafficking and online slavery, the agency said in a statement on Sunday (December 5, 2024).

The investigation on Saturday (December 4, 2024) led to the seizure of digital devices (mobile phones or tablets) and financial documents indicted, including debit cards, passbooks and check books of several banks, it said.

The case involves a criminal conspiracy by Kamran Haider and other suspects involved in sending vulnerable Indian youths to the Golden Triangle Region of Lao PDR, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) said in a statement.

Victims of the racket were forced to carry out online scams in Lao PDR, targeting European and US citizens, he said.

Investigations so far have revealed that Haider facilitated the entire operation and was also involved in withdrawing money through cryptocurrency wallets from victims who tried to escape the clutches of Chinese scammers, he added.
