The NFL has closed its investigation into allegations of sexual harassment against Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson.
The department has been considering the case for months, trying to determine whether Watson should be punished.
“The matter is now closed,” department spokesman Brian McCarthy said Friday in an email to The Associated Press. “There is insufficient evidence to support a finding of violation of the personal conduct policy.”
Watson, who is suspended for 11 games in 2022, is accused of assaulting a woman in Texas in September. He wanted more than $1 million before the parties reached a confidential settlement.
Watson denied the allegations through his lawyer, Rusty Hardin. Watson, 29, ruptured his Achilles tendon in October. He continues to rehabilitate the injury in the hope that he will return next season.
The Browns still owe Watson $46 million over the next two seasons after signing him to a $230 million fully guaranteed contract that backfired. Watson has only played 19 games in three seasons due to suspensions and injuries.
