“Hey, if it makes you feel any better: I have gray hair on my balls,” Crudup, 56, told Watts the first time they slept together, according to her book. I Dare To Say It: Everything I Wish I Knew About Menstruation.
Watts, 56, shared her menopause journey in a book, released Tuesday, January 21. Part memoir, part educational guide, the book details Watts’ experience with hormone patches — which is where this story comes in.
“I had started wearing the patch a few years earlier for hormone therapy. I was worried that if she saw it, she would realize that it means I’m menopausal: I’m no longer a living, fertile person,” she wrote. Unfortunately, the patch glue leaves a mark on the skin that is very difficult to remove.
While at Crudup’s home that fateful night, Watts wrote that he “torn up [the hormone patch] he removed and scrubbed the raw skin.” Crudup asked if she was okay in the bathroom because things were taking so long.
“I came out worried,” Watts shared in the letter. “I stumbled and tried to speak, but nothing came out.”
Eventually, Watts admitted that she was going through menopause and explained the hormone patches.
“A smile broke across his face. He seemed very relieved that it wasn’t a lack of desire,” Watts recalled. “He told me he thought it was good for me to take care of myself, and he asked me how he could help.”
Crudup then offered a similar – yet different – admission about the aforementioned gray hair.
“Those are by far the most romantic words I’ve ever heard, on screen or off, and that includes every movie script I’ve ever seen,” Watts continued. And even this man’s most passionate marriage proposal, which came seven years later.
Watts met Crudup on the set of Gypsythe 2017 Netflix series, in which he starred as a “sociopathic therapist.” While filming sex scenes together, things were friendly between them.
“Then one day during a sex scene, he threw a pillow across the room while he was harassing me so much that I was embarrassed and broke,” Watts wrote. “Soon after that, during one of those long light changes, while we were having a meaningful conversation, we looked at each other. It’s been on a beat for too long to be anything other than a shared attraction.”
Their flirtatious relationship began to blossom in 2017, with Us Weekly confirming in August of that year that Watts and Crudup were together. They tied the knot in a low-key ceremony in New York City in June 2023.
“Loving her is the kindest thing I’ve ever done for myself,” Watts wrote in her book.
I dare not say it it’s out now.
