An elephant calf that was separated from the herd was rescued dead at Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve (BTR) in Madhya Pradesh’s Umaria district on Sunday morning, an official said.
With this, 11 BTR skeletons died since last month.
The calf was found to be sick and was abandoned by its herd at the BTR safe haven on Friday, the official said.
The reserve has seen death of 10 elephants in the last three days of October.
BTR Deputy Director Prakash Kumar Verma on Sunday said that the elephant calf was found unconscious three days ago in the Panpatha buffer range.
The forest managers rescued the calf, which was three months old, was being treated at Rama Elephant Camp, where it died around 06:00 on Sunday, he said.
He said an autopsy will be conducted as per the law.
On October 29, four wild elephants were found dead in Sanga and Bakeli under the Khalil range of the reserve, while four died on October 30 and two on October 31.
